EA Releases Source Code for Four Command & Conquer Games

Electronic Arts has taken a bold step by releasing the source code for four iconic titles in the Command & Conquer series. These games—Command & Conquer, Command & Conquer: Red Alert, Command & Conquer: Renegade, and Command & Conquer: Generals—are now publicly accessible on GitHub under an open license. This move empowers both fans and developers to delve into, modify, and enhance these cherished classics, ensuring their continued relevance and enjoyment.

In addition to this, EA has also introduced Steam Workshop support for newer Command & Conquer games that utilize the SAGE engine, including Kane's Wrath and Red Alert 3. This new feature simplifies the process for players to create and share custom content, thereby fostering a dynamic and community-driven gaming experience.

Although Electronic Arts might not be actively developing new titles within the Command & Conquer franchise at the moment, the series remains a favorite among dedicated fans. By making the source code available and improving modding capabilities, EA is enabling enthusiasts to revitalize the series. This initiative not only preserves the legacy of Command & Conquer but also has the potential to draw in a new audience, eager to explore or contribute to its storied history.
