Dune: Awakening Delayed Three Weeks for Beta-Driven Improvements

Authore: MaxUpdate:May 25,2025

Dune: Awakening, the eagerly awaited open-world survival MMO inspired by Frank Herbert's iconic sci-fi novels and Denis Villeneuve's cinematic adaptations, has faced a delay and is now set to launch on June 10, 2025. Developer Funcom announced this news, highlighting that those eager to dive in early can do so on June 5 by purchasing the Deluxe Edition or Ultimate Edition of the game.

Funcom cited feedback from their ongoing Persistent Closed Beta as the reason behind the delay. They explained that this additional time would allow the development team "a bit more time to cook," enabling them to incorporate essential changes and enhancements requested by beta participants. Additionally, the delay paves the way for a large-scale beta weekend next month, offering more players the chance to experience the game and provide valuable feedback.

While the delay might be disappointing for those anxious to explore the sands of Arrakis, Funcom is set to host a combat livestream today at 12pm ET/9am PT. This event will delve deeper into the game's PvP and PvE mechanics, archetypes, and skills, offering fans a closer look at what to expect.

Here at IGN, we're thrilled about the prospects of Dune: Awakening. As we stated in our hands-on preview, "It's easy to be skeptical about an MMO survival game set in the Dune universe, but after enduring a few bouts of dehydration and sunstroke, the day I spent in Arrakis convinced me that Dune: Awakening is one to watch."
