Midnight Society, the game studio co-founded by popular streamer Guy 'Dr. Disrespect' Beahm, has recently announced its closure after three years of operation. The studio, which employed over 55 developers, made the announcement on X, stating, "Today we are announcing Midnight Society will be closing its doors after three incredible years, with an amazing team of over 55 developers." They also reached out to the gaming community, asking if any other studios are hiring and could offer employment opportunities to their team members.
Midnight Society was established by Beahm alongside industry veterans Robert Bowling and Quinn Delhyo, who have worked on renowned titles like Call of Duty and Halo. The studio's debut project, Deadrop, was intended to be a free-to-play first-person shooter (FPS) that leveraged the team's extensive experience. Although Deadrop was initially slated for a 2024 release, it ultimately missed its target date.

In 2024, Midnight Society parted ways with Beahm following his admission of engaging in inappropriate message exchanges with a minor via Twitch's Whispers feature. Despite this split, the studio continued to develop Deadrop until its closure this year.
Deadrop was envisioned in a unique universe where "the 80s never ended," featuring characters in Daft Punk-like helmets and equipped with guns and swords. The gameplay was designed as a PvPvE style extraction shooter, promising an exciting blend of player-versus-player and player-versus-environment interactions.
The closure of Midnight Society adds to the growing list of game studios facing shutdowns or layoffs during these challenging times in the gaming industry. This trend has also affected other notable companies such as Ubisoft, BioWare, Phoenix Labs, and many more, highlighting the difficulties the sector is currently navigating.
