Snow White, directed by Marc Webb, known for The Amazing Spider-Man 1 and 2, has faced a challenging start at the box office. According to Comscore, the film earned $43 million domestically during its opening weekend, making it the second highest-grossing film of 2025 so far, only behind the MCU's Captain America: Brave New World. Despite topping the charts this week, Snow White's debut falls short of the $45 million opening of the live-action Dumbo in 2019 and below initial expectations.
To put things in perspective, other Disney remakes have seen much stronger openings. The Lion King (2019), Beauty and the Beast (2017), The Jungle Book (2016), and The Little Mermaid (2023) all surpassed the $100 million mark in their domestic opening weekends.
Internationally, Snow White's performance was similarly subdued, pulling in $44.3 million, which brings the global total to $87.3 million, as per Comscore estimates.

Snow White is a live-action adaptation of Disney's iconic 1937 animated film, featuring Rachel Zegler, a seasoned musical actress, in the titular role, and Gal Gadot, known for her role as Wonder Woman, as the Evil Queen. With a reported production budget exceeding $250 million, the film now faces a steep challenge to break even, especially when marketing expenses are factored in.
However, there's hope on the horizon. Disney's Mufasa: The Lion King, a prequel to the 2019 remake, started with a modest $35.4 million domestic opening but ultimately amassed over $717 million worldwide. Disney is banking on a similar 'sleeper hit' success for Snow White, despite ongoing concerns about the box office performance of Captain America: Brave New World, which has now earned $400.8 million globally after six weekends, split between $192.1 million domestically and $208.7 million internationally.
IGN's review of Snow White gave it a 7/10, praising it as a meaningful adaptation of the original, rather than a mere imitation.
