The Yetuga is an aggressive adversary known for its relentless attacks when defending its territory. As your first boss encounter, it sets the tone for the rest of the game. To defeat Yetuga, mastering the combat mechanics is crucial. The boss can unleash both long and short-range attacks, including a leaping slam, making it essential to dodge and parry effectively.
Yetuga's attack patterns include:
- A two-hit combo starting with a left-handed downward smash followed by a right-handed uppercut.
- A four-hit combo with horizontal swipes using either its left or right arm.
- A downward smash with both arms.
- A leaping single-handed smash.
- A jumping grab.
- A charge.
Understanding these patterns is key to surviving the fight. You'll need to find openings to attack between Yetuga's onslaught. Parrying is particularly effective against all attacks except the jumping grab, allowing you to deal more Stamina damage. Utilize Yetuga's aggression by dodging its charge and letting it smash into a wall, which creates a brief window for you to attack. This is also your chance to break the ice spikes on its back, weakening its attack strength.

As you transition to the second phase of the battle, Yetuga's attacks become even more aggressive. You can parry all attacks except the grab, which conserves your Stamina. Keep up the pressure to trigger Yetuga's next phase, signaled by a roar and power-up. At this point, maintain your distance as Yetuga will use a giant rock to smash at you. Dodge or parry at the right moment to avoid taking damage.
Be wary of Yetuga's new frost breath attack, which creates ice spikes. You can either move away or parry this attack. Use Potent Attacks when opportunities arise, and when Yetuga is exhausted, unleash a Brutal Attack to deal significant damage. With persistence and strategic attacks, Yetuga will eventually fall.
Upon defeating Yetuga, you'll be rewarded with 4,800 Lacrima, along with Frozen Mountain gear items and the Necklace of Resolve.
