As someone who prides themselves on practicality, my spending habits are typically reserved for essentials and the occasional video game on sale. However, last year, I found myself drawn to the allure of LEGO sets, a hobby I cherished as a child but had set aside as I grew older. The high cost of LEGO, especially sets linked to popular franchises, had always been a deterrent. Yet, the LEGO Super Mario Piranha Plant, available for under $50 since last October, finally convinced me to indulge in a bit of nostalgia and enhance my desk decor with a unique potted plant.

My interest in this set was sparked after reading IGN's review of the Piranha Plant. Being a long-time fan of the Mario franchise, this set felt like the perfect homage to display on my desk. While LEGO's botanical line offers beautiful flower sets, none capture the whimsical and slightly menacing charm of the Piranha Plant.
My LEGO Piranha Plant
Having now built the set, I'm thrilled to have it gracing my desk. Each glance at it transports me to the Mushroom Kingdom, where I'm nurturing my own little Piranha Plant during work hours. The joy of the finished product was matched by the pleasure of the build itself. Completing it in one afternoon, it was engaging enough to keep my full attention. As my first LEGO Nintendo set, it has opened the door to considering more additions to my collection.

How Much Are You Willing to Spend on a LEGO Set You Love?
LEGO sets, especially those aimed at adults, can be quite pricey, with new releases often exceeding $200. It's easy to get carried away with the excitement of these detailed builds. For me, the decision to purchase the Mario LEGO set for under $50 felt justified. The hours spent building and the daily happiness it brings me are worth it, though I draw the line at spending more than that on a single set.
