Ubisoft Addresses Assassin's Creed Shadows Leak

Authore: EmmaUpdate:Apr 26,2025

On February 24, we reported that Assassin’s Creed Shadows had leaked online, with numerous individuals streaming the game a full month before its official release date on March 20. Over the weekend, the GamingLeaksandRumours subreddit highlighted now-deleted social media posts that revealed physical copies of the game being sold prematurely, and multiple streams of the unreleased game appeared on platforms like Twitch.

In response to these leaks, Ubisoft, the developer and publisher, has issued a statement on the Assassin's Creed subreddit. They acknowledged that players had gained early access to Assassin’s Creed Shadows and emphasized that the development team is still refining the game with patches ahead of its launch. Ubisoft noted that any leaked footage does not reflect the final quality of the game.

"Leaks are unfortunate and can diminish the excitement for players," Ubisoft stated, urging the community to refrain from spoiling the experience for others. They expressed gratitude to the community for their efforts in minimizing spoilers and encouraged fans to stay tuned for more official updates leading up to the March 20 release.

These leaks represent another setback for Ubisoft and the Assassin's Creed franchise. The development team has previously apologized for using a historical recreation group's flag without permission and for inaccuracies in Assassin's Creed Shadows' depictions of Japan.

Originally set for a November release, Assassin’s Creed Shadows was first delayed to February 14 and then to the current release date of March 20. With Ubisoft facing challenges from lackluster sales of recent releases and investor backlash, the success of Assassin’s Creed Shadows is crucial for the company's recovery.
