Sydney Sweeney has been cast in the upcoming film adaptation of Hazelight's critically acclaimed game, Split Fiction.

Reports emerged last month about the project moving forward, with Story Kitchen – known for successful video game adaptations like the Sonic films – assembling writers, directors, and cast members.

Variety reveals production details are coming together, with Madame Web's Sydney Sweeney confirmed for a leading role. Jon M. Chu (Wicked) is attached to direct, while Deadpool & Wolverine screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are handling the script. Industry sources indicate Story Kitchen is pitching this creative package to major Hollywood studios, anticipating competitive bidding.

The key casting mystery remains which twin sister Sweeney will portray – Zoe or Mio – with Variety confirming this decision is still pending.

Despite launching just in March, Split Fiction became another commercial triumph for Hazelight and creator Josef Fares, selling 2 million copies within its first week. The game is also slated as a Nintendo Switch 2 launch title.

IGN awarded Split Fiction a 9/10 rating, praising: "This masterfully designed cooperative adventure delivers relentless genre-hopping excitement, offering an inventive gameplay experience that proves incredibly hard to put down."

The Hollywood treatment isn't limited to Split Fiction – Hazelight's massive hit It Takes Two (23 million copies sold) is also being developed for film, potentially starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

While these adaptations might not all materialize, Hollywood's current appetite for successful video game-to-film conversions suggests strong momentum behind these projects.

Story Kitchen recently revealed its adaptation slate includes Square Enix's Just Cause (with Blue Beetle's Ángel Manuel Soto directing), alongside Dredge: The Movie, Kingmakers, and Sleeping Dogs. Surprisingly, they're even developing a live-action Toys 'R' Us film.

Meanwhile, Hazelight has begun teasing development on their next gaming project.
