HBO Max has unveiled the first trailer for Peacemaker Season 2, immediately establishing stronger Superman connections by featuring Maxwell Lord, Hawkgirl, and Guy Gardner in the opening scene.
A Superpowered Panel Interview Goes Awry
The trailer opens with Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, and Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl conducting a rather dismissive interview with John Cena's Peacemaker for a potential superhero team position. The encounter clearly doesn't go as planned, leaving a visibly dejected Peacemaker storming out.
DCU Connections Expand
These characters offer our first substantial look at several supporting players who will appear in James Gunn's upcoming Superman film, further connecting Peacemaker to the broader DC Universe.
Achieving peace requires teamwork.
Season ✌️ of #Peacemaker premieres August 21 on Max.
DCU Timeline Placement
Peacemaker Season 2 debuts on August 21, following the July 11 release of Superman - the third official installment in the new DCU after last year's Creature Commandos animated series.
Continuity in the New DCU
While Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran have rebooted the much-criticized DC Extended Universe (home to Justice League and Batman v Superman), certain elements will carry over. Peacemaker serves as a prime example - its first season existed in the old DCEU, while Season 2 joins the new DCU continuity.
Gunn has confirmed the entire Team Peacemaker cast returns with the same actors, including John Cena in the title role alongside Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.
Post-Superman Storyline
The director has revealed the series will take place chronologically after both Creature Commandos and Superman, with events from the latter film directly impacting Peacemaker's storyline.
