New Spider-Man Live-Action Project Allegedly Underway at Sony

Sony's Spider-Man Universe is reportedly expanding with a new film featuring a live-action Miles Morales. While Marvel continues its own Spider-Man saga, Sony is forging ahead with a project that could redefine its Spider-Man franchise.

Rumors suggest Sony is actively casting for an actor to portray Miles Morales, a character who gained immense popularity in Sony's successful animated Spider-Man films. Industry insider Jeff Sneider, on The Hot Mic podcast, broke the news, though the specifics—whether Miles will headline his own movie or appear in another Sony Spider-Man film—remain unclear.

The animated Miles Morales, voiced by Shameik Moore, resonated strongly with audiences, making a live-action adaptation almost inevitable. Producer Amy Pascal previously confirmed Sony's interest in a live-action Miles, and now it seems those plans are underway. Speculation points towards a potential appearance in another undisclosed Sony Spider-Man film, or perhaps the rumored Spider-Gwen movie. While Sneider didn't name potential actors, fan speculation centers on Moore (who's expressed interest) and Hailee Steinfeld (who voiced Gwen Stacy in the animated films and has also shown interest).

Sony's Spider-Man Universe has had mixed results. While the Venom films performed well, Madame Web and Morbius underwhelmed at the box office. A successful live-action Spider-Verse movie, especially one focusing on the popular Miles Morales, could revitalize the franchise. However, concerns remain that Sony might not handle this beloved character effectively, leading some fans to prefer a Marvel Studios production. The success hinges on Sony assembling a skilled creative team capable of meeting fans' high expectations. The wait is on to see how Sony navigates this, and if they can deliver a film worthy of the character.
