Sony Removes PS3 Classics Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 from PS5 and PS4 in PS Plus Overhaul

Next month, PlayStation Plus subscribers will see 22 games being removed from their library, including high-profile titles such as Grand Theft Auto 5, Payday 2: Crimewave Edition, and the last playable versions of first-party titles Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2. These removals are set to take place on May 20, 2025.

PlayStation Plus is an essential online gaming service for PlayStation platforms, offering a range of benefits including free monthly games, limited-time trials, online multiplayer, and member-exclusive discounts. It also provides a catalog of hundreds of current and classic games for Extra and Premium members, ensuring a rich gaming experience.

As reported by Push Square, this significant update includes the removal of two notable first-party Sony PS3 games from the PS Plus Premium library. Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 are particularly noteworthy as they are no longer available for purchase on the PS Store. This makes the PS Plus Premium streaming service the final frontier for playing these titles unless you own them on a functional PS3. Both games were added to the library towards the end of 2024, making their removal less than a year later a surprising move.

The Resistance series, developed by Insomniac Games, is known for its alternate history first-person shooter gameplay. Following their work on the Ratchet and Clank series, Insomniac released three Resistance games for the PS3 before shifting focus to other projects, including Marvel’s Spider-Man and new Ratchet and Clank titles.

While Sony occasionally removes first-party games from the service, the precedent was set with the unexpected removal of both Horizon games—Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon: Forbidden West—in August 2024. Unlike those titles, which remained purchasable, Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 will be entirely inaccessible on modern consoles after their departure.

Interestingly, Resistance 3 and Resistance: Retribution will continue to be available on the service. Additionally, the PS4 game InFamous: Second Son is also slated for removal from PS Plus.

Insomniac's Resistance series has been on hiatus for some time. In February, Insomniac founder and outgoing president Ted Price mentioned a push to develop Resistance 4, which unfortunately did not come to fruition. Much like Guerrilla's Killzone series, Resistance has taken a backseat in Sony's lineup.
