On April 9, Sega took to Twitter (X) to announce that Sonic Rumble will launch worldwide on May 8, 2025. Accompanying this exciting news was the release of a brand-new trailer showcasing captivating gameplay footage. Sonic Rumble marks the franchise's first foray into multiplayer party gaming, allowing up to 32 players to engage in competitive fun across various levels and gameplay styles. Sega describes the game as follows: "Players control a character from the Sonic series as they navigate a toy world crafted by the nefarious Dr. Eggman, tackling challenging obstacle courses and hazardous arenas!"

Given its free-to-play model, there have been discussions about potential pay-to-win elements. However, Sonic Rumble's Director, Makoto Tase, addressed these concerns in an interview with Automaton during the Tokyo Game Show 2024 in September 2024. He clarified, "We’re aiming for a casual system that allows you to just buy what you want quickly for a small, fixed amount, rather than a gacha system that gives you a certain probability of obtaining items."

While Sonic Rumble has not yet reached the final milestone of its pre-registration campaign, the target number remains undisclosed. Based on similar campaigns in other games, it's speculated that this might be set at 1 million or more.
