It looks like Buffy might be slaying again at Hulu.

According to Variety, a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot is on the horizon at Hulu, with Sarah Michelle Gellar in discussions to reprise her iconic role as the vampire-slaying hero. The reboot will introduce a new Slayer to the forefront, while Gellar would appear as a recurring character, adding depth and continuity to the series.

In an exciting development, Academy Award winner Chloé Zhao, celebrated for her work on Nomadland and Eternals, is negotiating to direct and executive produce this revival. The writing and showrunning duties will be handled by the talented duo Nora Zuckerman and Lila Zuckerman. Notably, original series creator Joss Whedon will not be involved in this new project, following accusations of fostering a toxic work environment during the production of the original series and its spinoff, Angel.

While specific plot details remain under wraps, the reboot is set to revolve around a new Slayer, with the possibility of Gellar returning as Buffy adding an exciting layer to the narrative.

The original Buffy the Vampire Slayer series followed Buffy Summers, a high school student destined to fight against demons, vampires, and other supernatural forces. Alongside her, Willow Rosenberg, Xander Harris, and her Watcher, Rupert Giles, formed a tight-knit group battling the darkness.

Running from 1997 to 2003 over seven seasons, Buffy the Vampire Slayer left a lasting impact on television. Its spinoff, Angel, further expanded the universe, which was later continued through a series of canon comic books. The reboot promises to bring this beloved franchise back to life, blending nostalgia with fresh storytelling.
