Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3: PS5 Launch Confirmed, Multi-Platform Release Planned
The highly anticipated final installment of the FF7 Remake trilogy will debut on PlayStation 5, according to producers Yoshinori Kitase and director Naoki Hamaguchi. This confirmation, revealed during a 4Gamer interview on January 23, 2025, alleviates concerns from PlayStation fans following the staggered releases of previous installments.
PS5 Launch and Beyond
Kitase directly addressed fan anxieties regarding the release pattern of FF7 Remake and FF7 Rebirth, assuring players, "No, you can rest assured about the next one (FF7 Remake Part 3)." While the PS5 is nearing the midpoint of its lifecycle, the possibility of a PS6 release before the completion of the FF7 Remake trilogy remains uncertain.
Release Date Remains Under Wraps
Square Enix remains tight-lipped about the official release date. However, Hamaguchi offered a positive development update during a Famitsu interview on January 23, 2025, stating, "It’s going very well...We are progressing without any delay." Kitase also expressed confidence in the completed storyline, stating his satisfaction and belief that it will meet fan expectations.
Timed Exclusivity Expected
A March 6, 2024 Washington Post report suggests PlayStation secured timed exclusivity for the entire FF7 Remake trilogy. Following the precedent set by previous installments, a PS5 exclusive launch period is highly probable before the game releases on other platforms.
Square Enix's Multi-Platform Shift
Despite the positive reception of the FF7 Remake series, Square Enix's March 31, 2024 financial report revealed declining HD title sales. In response, the company announced an aggressive multi-platform strategy encompassing Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms. This suggests future Square Enix titles, including potential future FF installments, may see wider releases beyond PlayStation.
