Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket developer Creatures Inc. is actively working to enhance the trading feature that was introduced last week, following significant player backlash. In a recent statement on X/Twitter, Creatures Inc. acknowledged the feedback from the community and admitted that the trading feature, designed to prevent abuse, has inadvertently restricted casual enjoyment for players.
The company explained that the trading system, including the use of Trade Tokens, was intended to curb bot abuse and maintain a fair playing environment. However, the high cost of Trade Tokens—requiring players to discard five cards to trade one of the same rarity—has been a major point of contention. Creatures Inc. promised to introduce Trade Tokens as rewards in upcoming events, but this has not yet been implemented, as evidenced by the recent Cresselia ex Drop Event on February 3, which did not include any Trade Tokens.
Creatures Inc. emphasized their commitment to improving the feature and mentioned plans to offer multiple ways to obtain Trade Tokens, including through event distributions. However, the statement lacked specific details about the nature of these changes or a timeline for their implementation, leaving players uncertain about future adjustments and potential compensation for trades made under the current system.
The trading feature's design has been criticized as a revenue-generating mechanism for Pokémon TCG Pocket, which reportedly earned $200 million in its first month. The inability to trade cards of 2 Star rarity or higher further fuels this perception, as it encourages players to spend real money for a chance to obtain these cards. For instance, one player reportedly spent $1,500 to complete the first set, highlighting the financial burden placed on players.
Community feedback has been overwhelmingly negative, with players describing the trading mechanic as "predatory and downright greedy," "hilariously toxic," and a "monumental failure." Creatures Inc. has yet to demonstrate a clear plan to address these concerns effectively, leaving the Pokémon TCG Pocket community eager for more substantial and immediate changes.
