DC Studios boss James Gunn has exciting news for fans, confirming that Peacemaker Season 2 will premiere on Max on August 21. Alongside this announcement, Gunn shared a brief glimpse of new footage, showcasing John Cena in character, smirking at the camera amidst a fiery backdrop. In the clip, Peacemaker is referred to as "a superhero now," marking an intriguing development in his storyline.

In a tweet, Gunn expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming season, stating that the premiere is "one of my favorite things ever." He also revealed that he recently completed the DI & Mix on the Season Premiere, underscoring his hands-on approach to the project.

Peacemaker Season 2 follows closely on the heels of Superman, set to release on July 11, which marks the cinematic kickoff for Gunn’s rebooted DCU. It will be the third entry in the DCU, following last year's Creature Commandos TV series and the upcoming Superman movie this summer.

Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran are steering the DC franchise into a new era, distancing it from the criticized DC Extended Universe (DCEU) that included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. Despite the shift, certain elements from the old universe will persist, with Peacemaker serving as a prime example. While Season 1 was part of the DCEU, Season 2 will be firmly set within the new DCU.

Gunn has hinted that "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes," though specifics about what will transition from the DCEU to the DCU remain under wraps. He confirmed that all of Team Peacemaker will return, with **John Cena** reprising his lead role, joined by **Frank Grillo** as Rick Flag Sr., **Freddie Stroma** as Adrian Chase, and **Danielle Brooks** as Leota Adebayo.

Moreover, Gunn has stated that Peacemaker Season 2 will take place after the events of Creature Commandos and Superman, with the latter’s events directly impacting Peacemaker’s narrative, adding another layer of excitement and continuity to the DCU.
