Overwatch 2 Unveils Exclusive Events in China

Overwatch 2 is set to make a grand return to China on February 19, coinciding with the launch of Season 15. This eagerly awaited relaunch will bring with it a host of rewards from Seasons 1 to 9, including Battle Pass incentives and exciting in-game events. Chinese players can look forward to diving back into the world of Future Earth, catching up on all the content they missed since the servers went offline in China during Season 2.

The anticipation began with a successful technical test that ran from January 8 through 15, allowing fans a sneak peek at the game, including Overwatch: Classic and the six new heroes introduced since the closure. Following the test, Overwatch 2 game director Aaron Keller shared exciting news on Xiaohongshu (RedNote) about a multi-week "Return to China" celebration. This event will feature popular in-game activities and rewards missed over the past two years. Chinese players will have the opportunity to earn Battle Pass rewards from Seasons 1 and 2 before the official relaunch, and from Seasons 3 through 9 through special in-game events post-relaunch.

Chinese Mythology – Theme for Overwatch 2 Season 15?

Adding to the excitement, Keller teased that Overwatch 2 Season 15 will introduce skin bundles inspired by Chinese mythology. While details remain scarce, it's unclear whether these skins will be new creations, existing designs, or exclusive to the Chinese market. There's also speculation about whether these skins might be part of a broader Chinese mythology theme for Season 15, similar to how Season 14 embraced Norse mythology in its cosmetics.

The global Overwatch 2 community won't have to wait long for more information. Season 15 kicks off on February 18, just before the game's official relaunch in China. As we approach the launch date, more details about the upcoming season are expected to be revealed, likely in early February.

In the meantime, players worldwide can participate in the second 6v6 test, Min 1, Max 3, from January 21 through February 4, featuring the classic 2-2-2 team composition. Additionally, events like the Lunar New Year and the Moth Meta Overwatch: Classic are scheduled before Season 15, promising a packed calendar of activities. While Chinese players might miss out on these events, they have their own special celebrations to look forward to upon the game's return.
