Switch 2 Joy-Cons May Function as Computer Mice: Evidence from Shipping Manifests

Recent circumstantial evidence suggests the Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons might offer an unconventional feature: computer mouse functionality. While the likelihood of widespread developer adoption remains uncertain, this potential capability aligns with Nintendo's history of innovative controller designs.

The evidence comes from Famiboards user LiC, who previously analyzed Vietnamese customs data related to a suspected Nintendo parts supplier. This data, a rich source of Switch 2 rumors since mid-2024, yielded a new discovery in early January 2025. LiC uncovered references to polyethylene (PE) adhesive tape described as "mouse soles" intended for "game console handles." This terminology, typically associated with computer mice, strongly suggests the Switch 2 Joy-Cons might incorporate mouse-like functionality.

Two "mouse sole" model numbers, LG7 and SML7, were identified. These designations are absent from public component databases, hinting at unreleased products. The listed dimensions – 90 x 90mm – are larger than the expected Joy-Con back surface, implying potential trimming during assembly. The legitimacy of this information, however, remains unconfirmed.

Not a First for Handhelds: Lenovo Legion GO Precedent

While a mouse-like controller mode is consistent with Nintendo's experimental approach, it's not unprecedented. The Lenovo Legion GO, released in 2023, already features this capability with its right controller, transformable into a mouse when rotated sideways. Lenovo even includes a plastic slider to improve surface glide.

The Legion GO also shares rumored Switch 2 features, such as magnetic controller attachments. These similarities offer intriguing parallels and potential insights into Nintendo's upcoming hybrid console.
