"Nintendo Switch 2 Controller Patent Hints at Sequel for Popular Game"

Authore: SarahUpdate:Sep 15,2025

A recently uncovered patent has sparked speculation that a sequel to Ring Fit Adventure could be in development for the Nintendo Switch 2. Filed at the end of May 2025 and recently made public—though with all images redacted—the document lists Nintendo as the patent holder under the category "video game controllers (accessories)." Notably, Fumiyoshi Suetake, a key designer behind the original Ring Fit Adventure, is credited as the inventor.

Suetake played a pivotal role in the creation of the 2019 fitness hit, which combines RPG elements with physical exercise using a ring-shaped controller. The game has sold over 15 million copies worldwide, making it one of the most successful motion-based titles on the Nintendo Switch. His involvement in the new patent strongly suggests that the upcoming accessory may be related to an evolved version of the Ring-Con system.

Further supporting this theory, Nintendo recently extended the patent for the original Ring Fit Adventure controller, indicating continued investment in the product line. Meanwhile, Foxconn, a major manufacturing partner for Nintendo, has revealed development work on new "force sensing technology" for a leading gaming company. Accompanying this announcement was a diagram depicting a device strikingly similar to the Ring Fit controller, hinting at a next-generation iteration.

Together, these developments point toward a potential sequel launching alongside or shortly after the Nintendo Switch 2. While the original game gained momentum during the 2020 home fitness surge, its lasting popularity suggests Nintendo sees long-term value in expanding the franchise.

As IGN noted in its original Ring Fit Adventure review, the game delivers a “fun and challenging blend of exercise and RPG mechanics,” offering a unique fitness experience that stands out in the gaming world.

For players diving into the new console, Nintendo Switch 2 brings enhanced compatibility with existing titles—from ARMS to Zelda—and a full lineup of launch-day games ready to play.
