Nintendo wary on Switch 2 sales amid tariff risks

Authore: HannahUpdate:Oct 04,2025

Nintendo has projected what analysts describe as a "conservative" sales estimate for its upcoming Switch 2 console, citing ongoing tariff uncertainties.

In its latest financial report, Nintendo forecast selling 15 million Switch 2 units and 45 million games during the fiscal year ending March 31, 2026. The new console launches on June 5.

The company stated its projections account for current U.S. tariff rates implemented April 10 but acknowledged potential fluctuations could impact results. "We'll closely monitor market conditions and adjust accordingly," Nintendo added.

PlayDaniel Ahmad, Director of Research & Insights at Niko Partners, characterized the 15 million forecast as "cautious," tweeting that Nintendo appears to be "accounting for tariff unpredictability, pricing variables, and production challenges despite strong pre-order trends."

Ahmad noted Nintendo might revise projections upward if tariffs ease, but warned: "Current economic factors create difficult launch conditions, compounded by potential tariff increases."

It's important to recognize that reaching 15 million units would make Switch 2 one of history's most successful console launches, surpassing the original Switch's first-year sales of 14.87 million.

Market enthusiasm appears significant. Following a tariff-related delay, Switch 2 pre-orders launched April 24 at the unchanged $449.99 price point — with predictably overwhelming response. Separately, Nintendo cautioned U.S. customers who ordered through My Nintendo Store about potential delivery delays due to exceptional demand.
