"Monster Hunter Wilds Hits 8 Million Sales in Just 3 Days, Sets Capcom Record"

Authore: LilyUpdate:May 05,2025

Monster Hunter Wilds has achieved a remarkable feat by selling over eight million units within just three days of its release, making it the fastest-selling game in Capcom's history. This impressive start significantly outpaces the initial sales of its predecessors, with Monster Hunter World shipping five million copies in 2018 and Monster Hunter Rise shipping four million in 2021.

The success of Monster Hunter Wilds is further evidenced by its performance on Steam, where it exceeded one million concurrent players during its opening weekend. This surge in popularity allowed it to surpass Cyberpunk 2077 and claim the title of the 7th most-played game ever on the platform. Additionally, the game's launch contributed to Steam reaching a historic milestone of over 40 million concurrent players for the first time.

In our review of Monster Hunter Wilds, we noted that the game "continues to smooth off the rougher corners of the series in smart ways, making for some extremely fun fights but also lacking any real challenge." This reflects the game's evolution in refining gameplay while maintaining the essence of the Monster Hunter series.

Capcom also shared that the Monster Hunter franchise, which debuted on the PlayStation 2 in 2004, has now surpassed 108 million units sold worldwide as of December 31, 2024. This milestone underscores the enduring popularity and growth of the series over the past two decades.
