For fans of classic JRPGs, Dragon Quest III: HD-2D Remake is a nostalgic delight, perfectly capturing the charm of the original while adding a modern sheen. However, its old-school difficulty demands careful planning. Here are some tips to aid your quest to defeat Baramos:
Master the Personality Test

The game opens with a personality quiz administered by "She Who Watches Over All." This seemingly minor detail significantly impacts your hero's stat growth. While you can alter your personality later with specific accessories, it's simpler to restart and choose your preferred traits. For optimal stat boosts, select "Vamp," but note this option is exclusive to female heroes.
Customize Your Party
In Aliahan, visit Patty's Party Planning Place. Instead of accepting her pre-set party, ascend to the second floor. Here, you can create a custom team, choosing classes Patty doesn't offer, and manually allocate stats and influence personalities, resulting in a stronger party. Regardless of your choices, a Priest is essential for healing magic.
Acquire the Boomerang and Thorn Whip

Early-game equipment can be costly, so powerful weapons are invaluable. Seek out the Boomerang (located in a chest on the third floor of Dreamer's Tower) and the Thorn Whip (obtained in Aliahan's well by giving Morgan Minimann two Mini Medals). Four Mini Medals are readily available in the opening hours (two in Aliahan, two in Dreamer's Tower). These weapons' ability to target multiple enemies makes them exceptionally useful, especially when equipped by your Hero and a strength-based character (Warrior or Martial Artist).
Command Your Party
While modern RPGs often take this for granted, Dragon Quest III: HD-2D Remake initially leaves party control to AI. Access the Tactics menu during combat and switch your party's behavior to "Follow Orders" for greater control over their actions and abilities.
Stock Up on Chimaera Wings

Early enemies can inflict significant damage if you're unprepared. Fast travel is unavailable until acquiring the Zoom spell (typically around level 8). Until then, keep Chimaera Wings handy for quick travel to previously visited locations, even within dungeons. At only 25 gold coins each, they're a worthwhile investment in preventing party wipes.
Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake is available on PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
