Sony Bravia X93L Review by Jaron Schneider

"While the Sony X93L carries a premium price tag, it largely justifies the cost with excellent image quality, driven by top-tier processing that delivers a fantastic gaming experience."

The Sony Bravia XR X93L was launched in March 2023. At that time, it was the second-highest-end non-OLED TV in Sony's lineup, just behind the X95L model (which was only available in an 85-inch screen size in the United States). The X93L utilizes Mini-LED technology, which performs exceptionally well with HDR content. As the name implies, Mini-LED panels contain a dense array of LEDs that can be individually controlled, switching on and off independently to enhance black levels and improve overall contrast. With Mini-LED, the LEDs are smaller and more numerous, allowing for more precise control over brightness in different parts of the image.

The X93L is also an excellent choice for gaming. It includes four HDMI ports, two of which are HDMI 2.1 compliant. HDMI 2.1 supports 4K output at up to a 120Hz refresh rate, making it ideal for current-generation consoles like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. The upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, however, is expected to be capped at 60fps in 4K when docked, so HDMI 2.1 is not necessary for that system.

If you use an Android smartphone, you'll appreciate that Sony employs the reliable Google TV smart interface. It's user-friendly, responsive, and even allows you to use your Android device as a remote control.
