Jason Momoa, known for his role as Aquaman in the now-defunct DC Extended Universe (DCEU), is set to bring the iconic character Lobo to life in the upcoming 2026 DC Universe (DCU) movie, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Lobo, an alien interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter, boasts superhuman strength and immortality, originating from the now-extinct planet Czarnia. Created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, Lobo first appeared in Omega Men #3 in 1983 and shares the tragic fate of being the last survivor of his world, much like Superman.

Momoa, who has expressed that Lobo is his favorite comic book character, is thrilled to step into this role, citing aesthetic similarities between himself and the character. In a recent interview with ScreenRant, he shared his excitement and nervousness about portraying Lobo, emphasizing the importance of staying true to the character's rough and gruff nature. Momoa also teased that fans will get a good look at Lobo, although his appearance in the film will be brief. "Well, this is the role I've always wanted to play," Momoa stated. "That’s the comic I loved, so I'm really nervous about it. It’s kind of a no-brainer to play this character. It's pretty big. I don't want to give away too much, but I mean, we look pretty dead on, exactly like the character, and he’s pretty rough and gruff and… I'll say the bike’s really cool."

When asked about Lobo's screen time, Momoa confirmed that the focus of the movie remains on Supergirl, saying, "It’s her movie, so it's great. I just come in for a little bit."

From Aquaman to Lobo, Jason Momoa is crossing DC universes.

In January, DC co-chief James Gunn unveiled the first photo of Milly Alcock as Supergirl, though it didn't reveal much. Gunn also announced on Bluesky that filming had begun for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, featuring House of the Dragon's Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El.

The movie draws heavily from the graphic novel of the same name by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira. The story follows an alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll who seeks Supergirl's help to avenge her father's murder by the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills. Matthias Schoenaerts plays Krem, while Eve Ridley portrays Ruthye. The cast also includes David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father Zor-El, Emily Beecham as her mother, and, of course, Jason Momoa as Lobo.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is slated for release in June 2026, following James Gunn's Superman, which will hit theaters this summer. The DCU's Clayface movie is scheduled for September 2026.
