Jason Isaacs Surprises with Lucius Malfoy Casting Choice for HBO's Harry Potter Series

Jason Isaacs, known for his portrayal of Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter films and his recent role in The White Lotus Season 3, has shared his thoughts on who should take over his iconic role in HBO's upcoming Harry Potter TV series. In an interview with Variety, Isaacs suggested Meryl Streep as his top choice for Lucius Malfoy, praising her versatility and talent.

"She can do anything, that woman. There’s literally no limit to what she can do," Isaacs remarked. Streep's ability to transform into various characters was highlighted by her past performance in the HBO miniseries Angels in America, where she played multiple roles, including an elderly male rabbi. This showcases her potential to convincingly portray Lucius Malfoy.

Despite his recommendation, Isaacs expressed that he has no advice for Streep or anyone else who might step into the role. "I wouldn’t have any advice at all. Why would I bother?" he stated, expressing confidence in the new cast. "I know some of the people they’re casting already. They’re brilliant actors. It’s going to be fantastic, and the last thing they need is advice from some old fart like me."

Isaacs first appeared as Lucius Malfoy in "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" and continued to portray the character through to "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2." As for the new adaptation, the only confirmed casting so far is John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, a role previously played by Richard Harris and Michael Gambon.

Rumors suggest that Black Mirror star Paapa Essiedu might be cast as Severus Snape, a role originally played by Alan Rickman, and Jessica Jones star Janet McTeer could be cast as Minerva McGonagall, originally portrayed by Maggie Smith. However, these casting decisions have not been officially confirmed yet.
