The buzz around Hollow Knight: Silksong has reached a fever pitch following recent updates and hints from Microsoft and Team Cherry. The game, a highly anticipated sequel to the critically acclaimed Hollow Knight, has been the subject of intense speculation, particularly after backend changes to its Steam listing were noticed on March 24. These changes, as tracked on SteamDB, include an opt-in for GeForce Now, modifications to assets, and an update to the copyright year on the Steam store page from 2019 to 2025. This suggests that a re-reveal or even a release could be imminent, possibly aligning with Nintendo's upcoming Switch 2 Direct on April 2.

It's been six years since the announcement of Hollow Knight: Silksong, and fans have been eagerly awaiting any new information. The game's development has been marked by periods of silence, punctuated by occasional updates. January saw a surge in speculation following cryptic social media activity from a Team Cherry developer, hinting at a potential re-reveal during the Switch 2 Direct and possibly a launch exclusive on Nintendo's next-generation console.

Originally, Hollow Knight: Silksong was announced for Windows, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch, and it has since been confirmed for Microsoft's Game Pass on day one, making it one of the most anticipated titles for the service. The inclusion of Silksong in Microsoft's Xbox-Bethesda Showcase in June 2022, with a promise that all showcased games would be playable within the next 12 months, further fueled expectations. However, in May 2023, Team Cherry announced a delay beyond the first half of 2023, with marketing and publishing lead Matthew Griffin stating, "We had planned to release in the first half of 2023, but development is still continuing. We're excited by how the game is shaping up, and it's gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can."

As the sequel to the beloved 2017 game, Hollow Knight: Silksong carries immense expectations. It remains one of the most wishlisted games on Steam, a testament to the enduring popularity and anticipation surrounding Team Cherry's latest project. IGN's review of the original Hollow Knight praised its rich world and intricate design, noting, "The world of Hallownest is compelling and rich, full of story that’s left for you to discover on your own, and built with branching paths that offer an absurd amount of choice in how you go about discovering it. With such a high density of secrets to find and fun, challenging enemies to face, it’s worth spending every moment you can in Hollow Knight."
