Star Wars Celebration revealed that Hayden Christensen will return as Anakin Skywalker in Ahsoka Season 2. In an exclusive interview, Christensen discussed reprising the role after nearly two decades, his affinity for the darker tones of Star Wars, and his favorite Anakin meme.
We started by exploring which Anakin stories Christensen wants to bring to life. He expressed enthusiasm for revisiting the Clone Wars era, saying, "I’d love to dive deeper into the Clone Wars period." This aligns with the limited live-action Clone Wars-era Anakin appearances, primarily seen in animation with Matt Lanter’s voice.

"My friend Ewan would be up for it too," Christensen noted. "It’s a striking era in Star Wars, with rich stories to explore. Maybe someday we’ll get the chance."
While fans would welcome this, Christensen acknowledged the need for "some aging effects" to portray a younger Anakin. Still, he remains eager to continue the character’s journey.
"I’m deeply attached to this role," Christensen shared. "I’d love to further explore Anakin’s arc, including more of his Darth Vader storyline. There’s so much more to tell."
The conversation turned to Revenge of the Sith, approaching its 20th anniversary on May 19, 2025. Known for its grim tone, the film resonates with Christensen, who appreciates Star Wars tackling heavier themes.
"George Lucas took bold risks, and I admire that," Christensen said. "He handled intense moments, like Anakin’s darkest actions, with care so we could process them. I enjoy when Star Wars embraces its darker side."
Revenge of the Sith marked Christensen’s last big-screen appearance as Anakin/Darth Vader. Reflecting on returning to the role, he shared how time has deepened his connection.
"It feels different now. I’ve lived 20 more years, which shifts your perspective," Christensen explained. "But I feel closer to Anakin than ever, having had time to reflect on him and understand his complexities. Revisiting a role after so long is a unique challenge in acting, and I’m grateful for it."
We then discussed the broader Star Wars saga, particularly the debate over the ideal viewing order for the films.
"I don’t think there’s a definitive right or wrong way," Christensen said. "George Lucas might prefer starting with Episode I for a linear story, but beginning with Episode IV has its own appeal. I’ve thought about this as I plan to introduce my daughter to the films—she’ll see her dad in some intense moments."
Finally, we asked Christensen about the iconic Anakin memes. While he’s familiar with the sand meme and enjoys the Padmé field scene, his current favorite features Emperor Palpatine pleading with Anakin during his duel with Mace Windu. Anakin quips, "He’s just reflecting your lightning back at you—stop shooting lightning!"
