GTA 6 on PC: Unconfirmed, Yet Promising

While GTA 6 has not been officially announced for PC, hints from Take-Two Interactive's CEO Strauss Zelnick during an interview with IGN on February 10, 2025, suggest that a PC release might be in the cards. Zelnick highlighted that their upcoming title, Civilization 7, will launch on both console and PC, but noted that Rockstar Games typically rolls out their titles on select platforms initially before expanding to others.

Reflecting on past releases, GTA 5 initially launched on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013, followed by PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in November 2014, and finally on PC in April 2015. Similarly, Red Dead Redemption 2 debuted on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in October 2018, with a PC version following in November 2019. Although no concrete confirmation has been given for GTA 6 on PC, Zelnick's comments imply a strong interest in eventually bringing the game to the platform. Fans had hoped for a simultaneous PC launch, but historical trends suggest a delayed PC release is more likely.

Take-Two's Confidence in GTA 6's Multiplatform Success

Zelnick emphasized the growing significance of the PC market, noting that PC versions of multiplatform games can account for up to 40% of total sales. He remains optimistic about GTA 6's performance across all platforms, despite reports of declining console sales for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Zelnick believes that major titles like GTA 6 can boost console sales, stating, "When you have a big title in the market and we have many of them coming, historically that has sold consoles."

He further elaborated, "And I think that will happen this year. I don't think tariffs are going to be our friend, but I think there will be a meaningful uptick in console sales in calendar 25 because of the release schedule, not just coming from us, but coming from others. So I'm not concerned about that [console sales falling]. I think the trend that you'd want to focus on is this increasing share of the market that is reflected in PC."

GTA 6 is slated for a Fall 2025 release, though no specific date has been announced. Stay updated with the latest on GTA 6 by visiting our dedicated page.

During the Take-Two Interactive Q3 Fiscal Conference Call on February 6, 2025, Zelnick expressed enthusiasm about expanding their game lineup to the upcoming Switch 2 console. He noted their long-standing relationship with Nintendo and the evolving demographics of the Switch user base, stating, "We've had obviously a long-standing relationship with Nintendo, and we've supported the platform when it made sense for the individual release."

Zelnick pointed out that the Switch's capabilities now cater to a broader audience, saying, "the Switch device can support any audience." With Civilization 7 already confirmed for the Switch, he added, "As you may have noted, Civilization 7 is now on Switch. So while we have nothing specific to report, we actually would fully expect to support Switch." This suggests that fans might see more Take-Two and Rockstar titles on the Switch 2 in the future.
