Rockstar Games' latest release, Grand Theft Auto 5 Enhanced, which hit Steam on March 4, has received a lukewarm reception, earning a 'mixed' user review rating. Out of 19,772 reviews, only 54% have been positive, making it the least favorably reviewed GTA title on Steam. In comparison, the original GTA 5, now unlisted and unsearchable on the platform, boasts a 'very positive' rating. The next least popular, Grand Theft Auto III – The Definitive Edition, fares better with 66% positive reviews.
GTA 5 Enhanced offers a free upgrade for PC users, bringing features exclusive to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S versions of GTA Online, such as new vehicles, performance upgrades at Hao’s Special Works, animal encounters, and the option to purchase a GTA+ Membership. It also promises enhanced graphics and quicker loading times. Players with existing GTA 5 PC versions can upgrade for free and transfer their Story Mode and Online progress.

However, the upgrade process has been marred by significant issues, particularly with account migration. Many players have reported that their GTA Online profiles are ineligible for migration, leading to widespread frustration and negative feedback. Some players have expressed strong dissatisfaction, with one stating, "The GTA Online profile associated with this Rockstar Games account is not eligible for migration at this time," and refusing to start over after nearly 700 hours of gameplay. Others have criticized the upgrade as a downgrade and vowed to stick with the legacy version until GTA 6 arrives.
Despite these challenges, GTA 5 Enhanced has seen robust player engagement, reaching a peak of 187,059 concurrent players on Steam. However, the rocky launch has raised concerns among PC gamers about the future release of Grand Theft Auto 6, which is set to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S in the fall of 2025, with no confirmed PC release date yet. A former Rockstar developer has urged PC gamers to remain patient and trust the studio's plans.
In related news, Take-Two, Rockstar's parent company, has taken legal action against PlayerAuctions for allegedly selling unauthorized GTA 5 content. Additionally, Rockstar has acquired Video Games Deluxe, the developer behind Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, and rebranded it as Rockstar Australia.
