Genki CEO Unveils Nintendo Switch 2 Insights

Authore: LucyUpdate:May 02,2025

The buzz around the Nintendo Switch 2 has reached new heights after Genki showcased a 3D-printed mockup of the upcoming console at CES 2025. Genki, known for its innovative handheld gaming gadgets like the PocketPro game controller, used the event to give a sneak peek at the accessories they're developing for the new console. The mockup, reportedly based on a Switch 2 obtained on the black market, offered a detailed look at what fans can expect from Nintendo's next big release.

One of the most exciting revelations came from Genki's CEO, Eddie Tsai, who confirmed that the new console features magnetic Joy-Con. Specifically, the SL and SR buttons on the Joy-Con use magnets to attach to the console. To detach them, a large button on each Joy-Con releases a pin that breaks the magnetic connection. Despite the switch from the current-gen's sliding rails to magnets, Tsai assures that the Joy-Con remains firmly in place during gameplay.

Genki Shares Additional Details About the Switch 2

Further insights from Tsai revealed more about the Switch 2's design. Each Joy-Con's "mounting channel" includes an optical sensor, hinting at potential new functionalities, such as using the Joy-Con as a mouse with a new attachment possibly connected through the magnetic SL and SR buttons. Recent leaks of Switch 2 images seem to corroborate this feature, with many observers noting the presence of optical sensors on the Joy-Con.

Despite its increased dimensions, bringing it closer in size to Valve's Steam Deck, the Switch 2 remains slim enough to fit into the existing Nintendo Switch dock. However, due to specific indentations, it won't be compatible with the original dock. The purpose of the mysterious "C" button and the additional USB-C port remains unclear, as Genki has no further details on these features.
