Simply put, PlayStation 5 has never had anything quite like Forza Horizon 5.
The Crew Motorfest comes close with its festival-style gameplay, clearly taking inspiration from Horizon's winning formula.
Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown? Unfortunately not. While Horizon owes a debt to Test Drive Unlimited's pioneering MMO racing concept, Solar Crown stumbled by forcing always-online requirements - something Horizon solved years ago with seamless online/offline transitions.
Need for Speed Unbound excels in vehicle customization but focuses heavily on police chases - making it a very different experience.
Forza Horizon 5 stands unchallenged as the premiere open-world racing game - and now PlayStation players can experience it firsthand. From its stunning Mexican landscapes to its masterful car handling physics, from its massive 900+ car collection featuring rare vehicles unavailable elsewhere - PlayStation owners are discovering Horizon's magic for the first time.
The developer team has eagerly anticipated welcoming new players.
"I'm incredibly excited," says Playground Games art director Don Arceta. "For many, this will be their first Forza Horizon experience. It takes me back to my own first impressions of the series."
Arceta particularly looks forward to seeing PlayStation players utilize Horizon 5's extensive Event Lab creation tools.
"With over 800 props available, our community's creativity has been staggering. I can't wait to see what PS5 players will build."
The PlayStation 5 port maintains Horizon's signature technical excellence despite never previously running on Sony's hardware.
"Converting our Xbox-focused engine was no small feat," explains Arceta. "Panic Button did phenomenal work ensuring PS5 players get the same premium experience as Xbox and PC users."
Beyond its impressive car roster, lead designer David Orton highlights Horizon 5's remarkable versatility.
"Horizon offers staggering variety," Orton says. "Whether you prefer racing, photography, or world-building - there's something for everyone."
Both developers share enthusiasm about players discovering Horizon's magic.
"The ideal reaction would be 'How did I never play this before?'" Arceta says. "That moment of delightful surprise means we've succeeded."
Orton adds: "Watching new players find their home in Horizon would be incredibly rewarding."
For racing fans, platform barriers have lessened significantly. Here's hoping this is just the beginning.
