Defeating and Capturing Quematrice in Monster Hunter Wilds: A Guide

Authore: OwenUpdate:May 14,2025

Ready to take on the fearsome Quematrice in *Monster Hunter Wilds*? Don’t let its fiery breath and meat-stealing antics scare you away. We've got you covered with all the info you need on its weaknesses, strategic approaches, attacks to dodge, and tips for not just defeating, but capturing this beast.

How to Beat Quematrice in Monster Hunter Wilds

The Quematrice, a giant chicken-like creature reminiscent of the Cockatrice, primarily uses fire-based attacks but fortunately doesn't turn you to stone. This mid-sized monster is vulnerable to water-based attacks and has no notable resistances, though it is immune to Sonic Bombs. Given its area-focused attacks, hunters might prefer weapons with some range for a safer engagement.

Watch out for its tail strikes and sweeps, particularly the tail slam, which is its most potent attack when you're positioned behind it. The Quematrice raises its tail high before slamming it down, but you can easily sidestep or block to avoid damage. Its fire attacks are the real threat, capable of both immediate damage and setting you and the ground ablaze, continuously draining your health. These fire attacks can come without much warning; it might rear its head and roar before spewing fire from its tail, or perform a full sweep after a similar warning, engulfing its surroundings in flames. It can also charge at you and then pivot to unleash fire. If you're fighting at range, start moving back as soon as you see it preparing these attacks to minimize damage.

How to Capture Quematrice in Monster Hunter Wilds

Capturing the Quematrice requires preparation with the right tools. Equip yourself with a Shock Trap and a Pitfall Trap, along with at least two Tranq Bombs. While one trap is technically sufficient, having a backup is crucial in *Monster Hunter* games to handle unforeseen situations like the monster fleeing or another creature triggering the trap.

Once the Quematrice is sufficiently weakened and limping, or if you notice the skull icon appearing intermittently on the mini-map, it’s time to set a trap. Ideally, wait until it moves to a new area after limping away to simplify the process. Lay your trap, lure the Quematrice into it, and then quickly throw two Tranq Bombs to successfully capture it.
