Bandai Namco has announced the cancellation of the global release of Blue Protocol, and the closure of its Japanese servers in early 2025. This decision follows declining player numbers and unmet expectations. Read on for details.
Blue Protocol: Global Release Cancelled, Japan Servers Shutting Down
Player Compensation and Final Updates
Bandai Namco's announcement confirms Blue Protocol's Japanese servers will cease operation on January 18, 2025. Consequently, the planned international launch, a collaboration with Amazon Games, is also cancelled. The company cited an inability to deliver a consistently satisfactory service as the reason for this decision.
In an official statement, Bandai Namco expressed regret, stating their inability to maintain a service meeting player expectations. They also acknowledged disappointment at halting global development with Amazon Games.
Despite the closure, Bandai Namco promises continued support until the final day, including new content and updates. Rose Orbs will no longer be sold or refunded, but players will receive 5,000 Rose Orbs monthly (September 2024 - January 2025) plus 250 daily. The Season 9 pass is now free, and Chapter 7, the final update, is slated for December 18, 2024.
The game's June 2023 Japanese launch initially attracted over 200,000 concurrent players. However, launch day server issues and subsequent player dissatisfaction led to a sharp decline in the player base.
Despite initial success, Blue Protocol failed to retain players and meet financial projections. This underperformance, noted in Bandai Namco's March 31, 2024 financial report, directly contributed to the service termination decision.
