In late January, a video emerged online showcasing a tool that hackers could use to remove players from matches in Black Ops 6. The footage was captured during the game's multiplayer beta, according to Activision's response to the video. The vulnerability highlighted in the video was addressed and fixed before the official release of Black Ops 6 in November. Activision emphasized that the video does not represent the current state of the game, as the team consistently investigates reports of such utilities.
Despite Activision's claims, some players argue that the company is not being truthful, pointing out that hackers are still using the utility. They provided a video as evidence, showing the program in action during a match on the Nuketown map, which was introduced to Black Ops 6 a week after its launch.
Black Ops 6 achieved the status of the top-selling game in the US last year, as reported by Circana analysts. Remarkably, the Call of Duty franchise has maintained its position as the top-ranked game in the United States for 16 consecutive years. In contrast, EA Sports College Football 25, released on consoles in July, became the most played sports game in the country.
In 2024, U.S. gamers' spending saw a slight decrease of 1.1% compared to the previous year. Circana attributes this decline to reduced demand for hardware, while spending on add-ons and services increased by 2% and 6%, respectively. Looking ahead, the second season of Black Ops 6 and Warzone 2, featuring a ninja theme and a crossover with the "Terminator" universe, is set to premiere on January 28.
