"Wolverine, Hulk, Carnage Join Marvel's Thunderbolts"

Authore: MadisonUpdate:Jun 18,2025

With the *Thunderbolts\** movie set to hit theaters, Marvel Comics is ramping up its storytelling momentum by launching an all-new series that promises high-stakes action and a fresh team dynamic. As part of the larger *One World Under Doom* crossover event, the Thunderbolts are once again positioned at the center of the Marvel Universe’s most dangerous threats—only this time, they’re not the same team fans have come to expect.

Written by Sam Humphries (*Uncanny X-Force*) and illustrated by Ton Lima (*West Coast Avengers*), *New Thunderbolts\** brings together a volatile mix of heroes and anti-heroes under the leadership of Bucky Barnes. The creative team aims to push the boundaries of what a super-team can be, blending raw power with unpredictable personalities. Stephen Segovia provides the striking cover art for the debut issue, giving readers a visual taste of what’s to come.

A New Lineup for a New Era

This isn’t your typical Thunderbolts roster. Joining Bucky Barnes in this mission are:

  • Clea – Sorcerer Supreme-in-training and master of the mystic arts
  • Wolverine (Laura Kinney) – A genetically engineered clone with razor-sharp instincts and even sharper claws
  • Namor – The Sub-Mariner, ruler of Atlantis and one of the most ruthless strategists in the Marvel Universe
  • Hulk – A powerhouse of uncontrollable strength and rage
  • Carnage – The chaotic symbiote threat currently worn by Eddie Brock, ex-Venom host

This eclectic group of warriors may not seem like a natural fit on paper, but it’s exactly that kind of tension that makes the *New Thunderbolts\** so compelling. The series kicks off with Bucky and Black Widow investigating a terrifying new threat: doppelgangers of the Illuminati who are destabilizing reality itself. To stop them, Bucky must assemble and lead a team capable of going toe-to-toe with existential danger—but keeping this crew from tearing each other apart might be the real challenge.

Creative Vision Behind the Series

“I love every iteration of Thunderbolts,” said Humphries. “I'm thrilled to continue the franchise's proud tradition of hard-hitting action, powder keg personalities, and explosive surprises into a new era. This is a gang of seven of the biggest badasses and loose cannons from different corners of the Marvel Universe. Assembling a super team is like inviting the right combination of guests to a dinner party. So I imagined a dangerous, disastrous, unhinged Marvel dinner party—and went with that.”

Ton Lima echoed that excitement: “I'm having a blast working on this book with Mr. Humphries and the team. Look at this lineup—it's crazy. They're not here to talk; they jump straight to the action! And that's the most fun part to draw. None of them are known for taking it easy on the job, so I can't either.”
