PlayStation has officially announced that Borderlands 4 will have its dedicated State of Play event today. The announcement came via a Twitter (X) post on April 29, stating that the Borderlands 4 State of Play will kick off on April 30 at 2 PM PT / 5 PM ET / 10 PM BST / 11 PM CEST. During the event, Gearbox Software developers will delve deep into the much-anticipated FPS sequel to the Borderlands series. According to a PlayStation.blog post from April 29, the State of Play will feature over 20 minutes of "developer-guided gameplay," showcasing missions, killer weapons, exciting Action Skills, and both new and returning characters.

Launch Date Moved to September 12

In a surprising turn of events following the State of Play announcement, Gearbox Entertainment CEO Randy Pitchford shared a video on Twitter (X) on April 29, revealing that Borderlands 4 will now launch on September 12. Although the video was quickly deleted, Pitchford followed up with another post, explaining that he had shared the news prematurely and would repost it soon.

In the video, Pitchford expressed that the development process has been exceptionally smooth, stating, "everything’s going kinda the best scenario," which has allowed them to move up the launch date. Initially, during PlayStation's February State of Play, Borderlands 4 was slated for a September 23 release. However, the game's official Twitter (X) account confirmed the new, earlier launch date of September 12.

The official post reads, "After careful consideration–along with A LOT of meetings, playtestings, and incredible development work–we have made the monumental decision to MOVE UP THE LAUNCH DATE OF BORDERLANDS 4 to SEPTEMBER 12."
