The Emmy nominations were announced yesterday, sparking widespread debate about which shows and performers were recognized for their outstanding work—and which were overlooked. Everyone has their own opinions, including Andor creator Tony Gilroy, who recently shared his thoughts on the cast members from his series he felt deserved nominations.
"There are numerous performances I wish had been acknowledged," Gilroy told Deadline, speaking about the Disney+ series. "Diego Luna and Genevieve O'Reilly delivered exceptional work. There are at least a dozen standout performances."
For Gilroy, performances like those from Luna and O'Reilly are the foundation of the series, transforming the scripted character arcs into living, breathing portrayals. Their work will secure their legendary status in the Star Wars universe, regardless of award nominations.
"These aren't just standout moments," Gilroy remarked about the overlooked performances. "They represent epic, long-term character development sustained over 24 episodes. The real achievement is that these performances will be celebrated and analyzed for years to come. I have no doubt about that."
Overall, Andor earned 14 Emmy nominations this year, making it the third most-nominated Star Wars series to date. The Mandalorian's first and second seasons hold the top two spots with 24 and 15 nominations, respectively.
Luna portrays the lead character, Cassian Andor, while O'Reilly plays Mon Mothma, a role she first took on in 2005's Revenge of the Sith. Although her scenes were cut from the final film, she later returned as Mothma in 2016's Rogue One and 2023's Ahsoka. She also voiced the character in the 2017 animated series Star Wars Rebels.
Andor made its debut on Disney+ in September 2022. The second and final season wrapped up a nearly three-year production cycle, premiering in late April 2025.
