The GeForce RTX 4090 may be a generation older than the new Blackwell 50 series GPUs, but it remains one of the most powerful graphics cards available, outperforming the GeForce RTX 5080, RTX 4080 Super, Radeon RX 9070 XT, and RX 7900 XTX. Only the RTX 5090 surpasses its performance, though securing one at a reasonable price can be a challenge due to significant markups.
Due to its discontinuation, the RTX 4090 is becoming harder to find. However, Dell offers two prebuilt gaming PC options equipped with this GPU at competitive prices. The Alienware Aurora R16, starting at $2,999.99, and the Dell Tower Plus, starting at $2,849.99, are currently the best deals for an RTX 4090-equipped system. Many other manufacturers, including Lenovo and HP, no longer offer RTX 4090 prebuilt gaming PCs.

$2,999.99 at Alienware
The Alienware Aurora R16 comes equipped with an Intel Core Ultra 7 265F CPU, GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, 16GB of DDR5-5200MHz RAM, and a 1TB NVMe SSD. You can upgrade the processor to an Intel Core Ultra 9 285K, though it's unnecessary for gaming as the default CPU is robust with a max turbo frequency of 5.3GHz and 20 cores. It's cooled by a 240mm all-in-one liquid cooler and powered by a 1,000W 80PLUS Platinum power supply.

The Dell Tower Plus offers similar specs with an Intel Core Ultra 7 265F CPU, GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, 16GB of DDR5-5200MHz RAM, and a 1TB NVMe SSD. Upgrading the processor to the Intel Core Ultra 7 285K for an additional $100 is recommended as it enhances the cooling system to an advanced air cooling setup, rated for 125W TDP. The system is powered by a 1,000W 80PLUS Platinum power supply.
How Does the RTX 4090 Stack Up Against Current Cards?
The RTX 4090 is the pinnacle of the RTX 40 series GPUs. Only the RTX 5090, with its $2,000 MSRP, outpaces it. The RTX 4090 excels at running games at 4K resolution, delivering over 60 fps with max settings and ray tracing enabled, especially with DLSS support. Path tracing remains a challenge for all GPUs, but it's rarely used outside of benchmarks and social media show-offs. For most gamers, the RTX 4090's performance is more than adequate, making the RTX 5090's additional power unnecessary.
Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 GPU Review by Chris Coke
"The RTX 4090 is a powerhouse, despite its size and cost. It outperforms the competition effortlessly. While it's the only card of its generation currently available, its hardware specs and DLSS 3 AI capabilities justify its $1,599 price tag for the exceptional frame rates it delivers."

Dell offers an Alienware Aurora R16 with the new GeForce RTX 5080 GPU for $2,499.99. The RTX 5080, part of the new Blackwell series, is difficult to find. As Jackie notes in our review, "The RTX 5080 offers little performance improvement over the RTX 4080, though DLSS 4 Multi-Frame Generation enhances visuals in supported games. It's a great option for those upgrading from older GPUs seeking a significant boost, especially if you're keen on Nvidia's AI features."
