Industry insider AusilMV, known for accurate game leaks, suggests that Season 5 of MultiVersus could be its final season if it fails to perform well. A source close to the development team reportedly indicated that the season is a last-ditch attempt to revive the game's flagging popularity. While this remains a rumor, the situation is undeniably precarious.
The game's initial launch in 2022 saw explosive success, peaking at 153,000 concurrent players on Steam. However, a dramatic 99% player drop followed shortly after, leading Warner Bros. Games to shut down the project in June 2023, controversially labeling it an "open beta test." A relaunch with updates occurred in May 2024, but the game has yet to recapture its initial momentum.
Season 5, launching in early February, represents a crucial turning point. It may be the developers' final opportunity to reignite player interest and prevent the game's permanent closure.
The game's 2022 release, now retrospectively termed a "beta," initially enjoyed widespread player enthusiasm.
