Cross-platform play has revolutionized online gaming, uniting the Call of Duty community. However, crossplay isn't without its drawbacks. This guide explains how to disable crossplay in Black Ops 6 and the implications of doing so.

The Crossplay Dilemma

Disabling crossplay in Black Ops 6 offers a trade-off. Many players disable it to level the playing field, believing it creates a fairer experience. Console players, particularly, often want to avoid competing against PC players due to the inherent advantages of mouse and keyboard controls – superior aiming precision – and the increased potential for encountering cheaters, despite anti-cheat measures like Ricochet. Disabling crossplay theoretically reduces the likelihood of encountering cheaters.

The Catch: Matchmaking Difficulties

The significant downside to disabling crossplay is a drastically reduced player pool. This can lead to longer matchmaking times and potentially less stable connections with other players. Our experience suggests that finding matches takes considerably longer with crossplay disabled.

How to Turn Off Crossplay

Disabling crossplay is relatively simple. Locate the "Account & Network" settings. Within these settings, you'll find the "Crossplay" and "Crossplay Communications" toggles near the top. Simply switch them from "On" to "Off" using the X or A button (depending on your console). This can be done from within Black Ops 6, Warzone, or the main Call of Duty menu. Greyed-Out Settings and Ranked Play

You may encounter situations where the crossplay setting is greyed out and unavailable. In some game modes, such as Ranked Play, Call of Duty may enforce crossplay. While intended to promote fairness, this often has the opposite effect. Fortunately, crossplay disabling is expected to be available in Season 2 of Black Ops 6, providing players more control in high-stakes modes.
