Tencent, a leading Chinese technology company, has reportedly secured a controlling stake in Kuro Games, the developer behind the popular games Wuthering Waves and Punishing: Gray Raven. This acquisition significantly impacts both companies' future.
Tencent's Majority Stake in Kuro Games
Tencent Now Holds Over Half the Shares
Tencent's share in Kuro Games has increased to approximately 51.4%, following the acquisition of roughly 37% of the shares. This, coupled with the departure of other shareholders, grants Tencent majority control and makes them the sole external investor in Kuro Games. This follows an initial investment made by Tencent in 2023.
Assurances of Independence for Kuro Games
According to reports from Chinese news outlet Youxi Putao, Kuro Games will maintain its operational independence. This echoes Tencent's approach with other successful game studios like Riot Games (League of Legends, Valorant) and Supercell (Clash of Clans, Brawl Stars). Kuro Games stated that this acquisition will foster a "more stable external environment" and support its long-term independent strategy. Tencent has not yet released an official statement.
