Stellar Blade, the first non-gacha game from Shift Up to hit the US market, has garnered praise for its challenging soulslike gameplay, stunning visuals, captivating soundtrack, and its eye-catching character design.

In our Stellar Blade review, Mitchell Saltzman noted that "Stellar Blade shines as a beautifully crafted action game with strong core mechanics and notable flaws. While its narrative and characters could use more depth, and some RPG features like repetitive sidequests fall short, the game's combat system, inspired by Sekiro, is rock solid. It offers a variety of monstrous foes to battle and hidden treasures that encourage thorough exploration." IGN gave Stellar Blade a 7/10, though I personally found it to be an exceptional game worthy of a higher rating. Although it didn't make it onto our list of the best PS5 games of 2024 due to its recent release (games need to be out for at least 6 months to qualify), it's definitely one to watch.

For those concerned about performance, Stellar Blade is a demanding title that I recommend playing in "Performance" mode to maintain a smooth 60fps experience. However, if you're lucky enough to own a PlayStation 5 Pro, you can enjoy the game in "Enhanced" 4K mode and still benefit from excellent frame rates. According to the official PlayStation blog, "With PS5 Pro, players can experience Stellar Blade in 4K at 50fps or higher, with enhanced gameplay smoothness and improved detail via PSSR upscale mode. Additionally, the HFR option supports gameplay at 80fps with a 120hz display."
