Concord, Sony's Major Flop, Continues to Get Updates on SteamDespite its swift demise weeks after launch, Sony's ill-fated hero shooter, Concord, continues to receive updates on Steam. This unexpected activity has sparked considerable speculation among gamers.

Concord's SteamDB Update Mystery

Free-to-Play Resurgence? Gameplay Overhaul? Theories Abound

Remember Concord? The hero shooter that fizzled out faster than a damp squib? Even though it was officially delisted on September 6th, its Steam page shows a consistent stream of updates.

Since September 29th, SteamDB logs indicate over 20 updates, attributed to accounts like "pmtest," "sonyqae," and "sonyqae_shipping." These account names suggest a focus on backend improvements and quality assurance ("QAE").

Concord, Sony's Major Flop, Continues to Get Updates on SteamConcord's August launch was a high-profile flop. Its $40 price tag proved a significant hurdle in a market dominated by free-to-play giants like Overwatch, Valorant, and Apex Legends. The game's poor reception led to its quick removal from digital storefronts and refunds for players. It was widely considered a failure.

So, why the continued updates? In the game's shutdown announcement, former Firewalk Studios Game Director, Ryan Ellis, hinted at exploring options to better reach players. This has fueled speculation of a potential relaunch, possibly as a free-to-play game. Removing the price barrier could address a major criticism.

Sony's substantial investment—reportedly up to $400 million—makes a salvage attempt plausible. The ongoing updates suggest Firewalk Studios might be overhauling the game, adding features, and addressing criticisms such as weak characters and uninspired gameplay.

However, Sony remains silent on Concord's future. Will it return with improved mechanics, broader appeal, or a revised monetization strategy? Only Firewalk Studios and Sony know for sure. Even a free-to-play relaunch would face a fierce battle for attention in a crowded genre.

Currently, Concord is unavailable for purchase, and Sony hasn't issued any official statements. The future of Concord remains uncertain, leaving its fate hanging in the balance.
