Physical Edition Contains Complete Base Game on 64GB Cartridge

SEGA revealed on July 16 via the game's official website that Sonic Racing CrossWorlds will launch digitally during the 2025 holiday season for Switch 2, with the physical edition arriving in early 2026. Breaking from Nintendo's recent trend of using game key cards, SEGA will include the complete base game on a 64GB cartridge - eliminating mandatory downloads for physical buyers.

A $10 upgrade path from Switch to Switch 2 will be available, with full progress transfer between platforms. The Switch 2 version will join the game's cross-platform matchmaking system. However, the Limited Run Games Collector's Edition won't be produced for Switch 2. Nintendo promises additional Switch 2 details in future announcements.

Latest Showcase Reveals 70,000+ Customization Options

Following the Switch 2 announcement, SEGA released a new trailer spotlighting the game's extensive customization system. The July 17 showcase highlights CrossWorlds' staggering array of personalization options, offering players over 70,000 possible combinations to craft their ideal racing machine.

"With over 40 vehicles, 70+ gadgets, and 100+ vehicle parts & decals, players can create countless unique setups," the trailer description explains. Beyond visual modifications, strategic gadget combinations provide competitive advantages during races.

Notable gear sets include the Heavy Hitter Bounty (featuring rocket attacks), Air Trick Expert (enhanced aerial maneuvers), and Radio Spin Knockback (disruptive energy pulses). These systems let players "strategize their loadouts while racing toward victory."

SEGA Account Holders Receive Exclusive Blue Star Vehicle

As a special promotion, SEGA is offering the Blue Star hoverboard vehicle exclusively to players linking their SEGA accounts. This bonus will be available from September 25 through October 31 when connecting accounts to the game platform.

With premium rewards like the Blue Star and upcoming crossovers including Hatsune Miku, Persona, and Yakuza content, CrossWorlds is shaping up to be the most ambitious entry in the racing franchise.
