Following significant player backlash, Mountaintop Studios, the developers of Spectre Divide, swiftly adjusted the pricing of in-game skins and bundles just hours after the online FPS game's launch. The studio announced a price reduction of 17-25% across various items, implementing a permanent price decrease.
Significant Price Reductions and Refunds
In response to widespread criticism regarding the initial high cost of in-game cosmetics, Mountaintop Studios initiated a price correction. Game director Lee Horn confirmed that weapons and outfits received a substantial discount. Furthermore, players who purchased items before the price reduction will receive a 30% SP (in-game currency) refund, rounded up to the nearest 100 SP. This proactive measure aims to address player concerns about the affordability of in-game purchases.
The statement from Mountaintop Studios acknowledged player feedback, highlighting their commitment to responsiveness. However, the Starter pack, Sponsors, and Endorsement upgrades will retain their original prices. Players who purchased the Founder's or Supporter packs and these additional items will receive the additional SP refund credited to their accounts.
Mixed Reactions and Steam Reviews
Despite the price adjustments, the reception remains divided. While some players appreciate the studio's swift response and the refund policy, others express continued dissatisfaction and skepticism. The game currently holds a "Mixed" rating on Steam, reflecting the negative reviews stemming from the initial pricing controversy. Social media discussions highlight both positive and negative reactions, with some players suggesting further improvements, such as allowing individual item purchases from bundles. Concerns remain regarding the long-term impact of the pricing strategy and the potential for future competition from other free-to-play games. The timing of the price correction also drew criticism, with some players arguing that the adjustments should have been made prior to launch.
