Silksong Speculations Rage (Again) Because of a Cake

The fervor among Hollow Knight fans was reignited by a series of intriguing actions from one of the game's creators, William Pellen, on Twitter (X). Just before the Switch 2 reveal on January 16, 2025, Pellen posted a cryptic message on January 15, stating, "something big is coming. keep your eyes closed tomorrow." This message was likely a nod to the anticipated Switch 2 announcement, but it also sparked renewed interest in Silksong's release.

On the day of the Switch 2 announcement, Pellen changed his Twitter profile picture to a slice of cake, which fans quickly connected to an article about the Brooklyn Blackout Cake recipe published by Bon Appetit on April 2, 2024. Pellen's comment on the article, "mmmm tasty," further fueled speculation. Fans engaged with the article, leaving comments that intertwined their love for the cake with their anticipation for Silksong. One fan even promised to bake the cake if Silksong news was announced by April 2, 2025, while another praised the cake's "silky texture," cleverly linking it to the game and the upcoming Nintendo Direct.

While it's impossible to confirm if Pellen was directly involved with the comments on the cake recipe, his profile picture change is undeniable. It suggests he might be hinting at something, though it could also be a playful tease with no concrete connection to Silksong.

Hollow Knight: Silksong’s Official Announcement Five Years Ago

Hollow Knight: Silksong was first announced on February 14, 2019, promising to expand the universe of Hollow Knight with a new adventure centered around Hornet in a kingdom ruled by silk and song. The game was slated for release on multiple platforms, including Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.

In December 2019, Team Cherry shared a preview of the game's soundtrack, composed by Christopher Larkin. Following this, the development team went quiet for over two years. The silence was broken in February 2022 when Pellen reassured fans that the game was still in development, promising more information as the release date approached. Later that year, in June, Team Cherry unveiled a new trailer during the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase, showcasing fresh gameplay and confirming the game's availability on Game Pass upon launch.

Originally anticipated for a 2023 release, Team Cherry's Matthew Griffin announced a delay in May 2023, stating, "We had planned to release in the 1st half of 2023, but development is still continuing. We're excited by how the game is shaping up, and it's gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can."

Despite the delay, the Hollow Knight community remains vibrant and engaged, eagerly awaiting any updates on Silksong. While official information has been scarce since the delay announcement, the dedication of the fanbase continues to drive speculation and hope for the game's eventual release.
