Nintendo Switch 2: Size Unveiled in Latest Leak

The Nintendo Switch 2: A Size Comparison

Initial glimpses of the Nintendo Switch 2 reveal trailer confirm a larger console than its predecessor. The transition from the original Switch to its successor showcases a significant size increase, indicating a shift away from compact handhelds towards larger portable devices akin to the Steam Deck and iPad.

While Nintendo hasn't released official dimensions, estimations can be made based on the trailer and a Switch 2 mock-up from Genki, a peripheral designer, showcased at CES 2025. The mock-up's accuracy is strongly supported by the trailer's details.

Screen Size:

The Switch 2 is estimated to feature an 8-inch screen (diagonal measurement, excluding bezels). This aligns with earlier rumors. This translates to approximately 177mm wide and 99mm tall. This represents a nearly 30% diagonal increase and a 66% larger area compared to the original Switch's 6.2-inch display. The increase is even more significant against the Switch Lite (45% diagonal, 111% area) and the Switch OLED (14% diagonal, 30% area).

Compared to the Steam Deck's 7-inch screen (and the 7.4-inch Steam Deck OLED), the Switch 2's screen is still larger, exceeding the Steam Deck OLED by 8% diagonally and 11% in area.

Overall Console Size:

The larger screen results in a larger console. Measurements from the Genki mock-up suggest the Switch 2 is approximately 265mm long and 115mm tall, a 25% increase over the original Switch (239mm x 102mm). It's 61% larger than the Switch Lite (208mm x 91mm) and roughly 12% smaller than the Steam Deck (298mm x 117mm). Depth is estimated to be similar to the original Switch.

Joy-Con Size:

The trailer suggests slightly taller, but similarly wide, Joy-Cons. Estimated dimensions are 32mm wide and 115mm tall—a 13% increase over the originals.

Screen Unit Size:

Subtracting the Joy-Con dimensions from the overall console size, the estimated screen unit size is 200mm long and 115mm tall, approximately 31% larger than the original Switch. This allows for relatively slim bezels.

Disclaimer: These measurements are estimations based on the Genki mock-up and trailer analysis. Official dimensions may differ. However, the estimations suggest a significantly larger console than its predecessor.
