Nintendo Alarmo Alarm Clock Releases Before GTA 6 Who saw this coming? Nintendo has launched a new interactive alarm clock, the Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo, completely unexpectedly. This isn't the only surprise; the company has also revealed a secretive Switch Online playtest.

Priced at $99, the Alarmo uses game sounds to coax you out of bed. Nintendo boasts that it makes you feel like you're waking up *inside* a Nintendo game. The alarm features sounds from popular franchises like Mario, Zelda, and Splatoon, with free updates adding more in the future.

The Alarmo's unique feature is its insistence on you actually getting out of bed. It won't stop until you do, treating your successful escape as a "brief victory fanfare." You can try waving your hand in front of it to quiet the alarm temporarily, but prolonged slumber will only make it louder.

Setting the alarm involves choosing a game, a scene, and the alarm time. The Alarmo uses a radio wave sensor to track your distance and movement speed. Nintendo developer Tetsuya Akama explains, "It can detect very subtle movements and, unlike cameras, it doesn't need to film videos, ensuring better privacy." This technology allows it to function even in dark rooms or with obstacles between you and the clock.

Early Access for Switch Online Members

Nintendo Switch Online members in the US and Canada can purchase the Alarmo exclusively through the My Nintendo Store for a limited time before its general release. The Nintendo New York store also offers in-person purchases while supplies last.

A Mysterious Switch Online Playtest

Applications Open October 10!

Nintendo has also announced a Switch Online playtest, open for applications from October 10th, 8:00 AM PT / 11:00 AM ET to October 15th, 7:59 AM PT / 10:59 AM ET. This playtest focuses on a new feature for the Nintendo Switch Online service.

Up to 10,000 participants will be selected. Those outside Japan will be chosen on a first-come, first-served basis, with applications closing early if the participant limit is reached. To apply, you must:

⚫︎ Have an active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership by October 9th, 2024, 3:00 PM PDT. ⚫︎ Be at least 18 years old by October 9th, 2024, 3:00 PM PDT. ⚫︎ Have a Nintendo Account registered in Japan, the USA, UK, France, Germany, Italy, or Spain.

The playtest itself runs from October 23rd, 2024, 6:00 PM PT / 9:00 PM ET to November 5th, 2024, 4:59 PM PT / 7:59 PM ET.
