Nexon Announces The Global Shutdown Of KartRider: Drift

Nexon has announced the global shutdown of KartRider: Drift, the mobile, console, and PC racing game launched in January 2023. The closure affects all global platforms, but notably excludes the Asian servers in Taiwan and South Korea. While the Asian versions will receive updates, Nexon remains tight-lipped about specifics and the possibility of a future global relaunch.

Asian Servers Remain Operational

The shutdown only impacts the international release. Players in Taiwan and South Korea can continue enjoying KartRider: Drift, albeit with upcoming changes yet to be detailed by Nexon.

Global Shutdown Timing Unclear

The precise date of the global server shutdown remains unannounced. The game is currently still available on the Google Play Store, allowing players a final opportunity to experience it before its closure later this year.

Reasons Behind the Shutdown

Despite efforts to provide a seamless global experience, KartRider: Drift faced significant challenges. Player feedback highlighted issues with excessive automation, leading to repetitive gameplay. Furthermore, technical problems, including subpar optimization on certain Android devices and numerous bugs, hampered the game's success. These factors ultimately prompted Nexon to reassess their strategy, resulting in the global shutdown and a renewed focus on the Asian PC versions.

Nexon aims to revitalize KartRider: Drift in Korea and Taiwan, returning to its original vision and addressing past shortcomings. The company hasn't ruled out a potential future global return.
