Bad news for The Last of Us fans hoping for a Part 3 video game: Neil Druckmann, the series creator, has poured cold water on any such expectations.
In a recent interview with Variety, primarily focused on the TV series, Druckmann effectively ruled out a third game, stating, "I was waiting for this question," he said, sighing. "I guess the only thing I would say is don’t bet on there being more of ‘Last of Us.’ This could be it.”
Whether to believe Druckmann remains a question. Naughty Dog is currently engrossed in developing Intergalactic, unveiled at The Game Awards last December, with no release date in sight, suggesting a lengthy development period. The studio's current focus on space exploration leaves little room for The Last of Us Part 3 in the foreseeable future. Druckmann might be playing coy, or simply unwilling to commit at this time. Future circumstances could alter his stance, or perhaps he's truly finished with the franchise.
However, for those yearning for more Last of Us content, the TV series offers a compelling alternative. Season two premieres April 13th on Max. While Druckmann remains uncertain about the total number of seasons, an HBO executive hinted at four seasons in February.
